Only Fans works to host content of all categories and erotic images and videos are part of that, according to the chief executive of the platform Amparali Gan. “We guarantee as much freedom as possible while verifying the identity and thinking about the safety of our creators.”

The platform offers a simple and transparent way of monetizing with the subscription model, according to Gan. For this, it charges a commission of 20% —YouTube, for example, takes 15% of the advertising costs. OnlyFans has earned BRL 51 million to creators since its launch in 2016.

The chief executive claims that people have a misconception about the platform by linking it only to erotic videos. “We also have traditional sports and e-sports athletes, musicians and comedians. Each of them is CEO of their own channel.”

In August 2021, the company announced that it would banish any explicit image from the platform, but it went back. Today, according to Gan, erotic content is safe on the platform. The platform has around 2 million influencers and 188 million users.

“We just want to clarify this stigma”, says the executive. She adds that the platform has protocols to keep access restricted to users over 18 years old. “Our entire account verification process is done by humans, so it takes time.”

In addition to subscription channels, OnlyFans has a free streaming channel, OFTV. In this space, the site transmits pictures of its main creators and reality shows.

Gan says that creators also have other possibilities to earn money, interacting with customers via private chat. “This gives users a unique way to interact with their idols.”

There are agencies specialized in managing relationships between OnlyFans influencers and users and subscribers, in order to increase these profits and meet the scale of work.

Only Fans reported that it had, in 2021, a revenue of US$ 932 million (about R$ 4.8 billion). That year, content creators raised nearly $4 billion (approximately R$21 billion), an increase of 115% compared to the previous year.

There was also growth in profits: from US$ 61 million (almost R$ 320 million) in 2020 to US$ 433 million (about R$ 2.2 billion) in 2021.
