Léo Moço, barista and owner of Ô Barista Café, in Curitiba, overcame more than a dozen competitors and won the silver medal at the Brazilian Barista Championship, which took place last week in São Paulo. The winner was Boram Um, from São Paulo, who will represent Brazil in the world cup in Greece, at the end of June.

In the Championship baristas have 15 minutes to serve 4 espressos, 4 coffee and milk based drinks and 4 signature drinks. Léo used in his presentation the coffee that he produces in Ibicoara, in Chapada Diamantina, Bahia. “My signature drink is an espresso with ice, honey and cocoa,” he explains.

According to the barista from Paraná, he had not competed since 2019 and having managed to be among the best was a great placement. “It shows that I’m still at the top, that I’m still among the best in Brazil and representing our city well”, he adds.

The Brazilian Barista Championship is held by the Brazilian Association of Specialty Coffees (BSCA) and by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), as part of the “Brazil. The Coffee Nation”.

The objective is to reinforce the image of Brazilian grains around the world and position the country as a high-quality supplier, using state-of-the-art technology resulting from research carried out. The world stage takes place in June, in Greece.
