On the eve of Carnival, shopkeepers on 25 de Março report difficulties in stocking stocks with traditional products for the party.

According to Marcelo Mouawad, director of Univinco (a union of shopkeepers in the region) and commercial director of wholesaler Semaan, there is a shortage of confetti, streamers, foam and hair dye.

“I am a distributor of these products. I have nothing. I no longer have a bag of confetti, a roll of serpentine, a can of foam. I still have paint in some colors, but the volume is not enough to meet even 10% [do público] going to Carnival. And with no prospect of receiving more, “she says.

For Mouawad, the scenario still reflects the impact of the pandemic. “There were several years without Carnival and that complicated production. Many factories couldn’t resist: they went bankrupt, downsized, fired or shut down.”

Armarinhos Fernando also had difficulties. According to Ondamar Ferreira, headquarter manager, the store is not selling serpentine and confetti this year because the cost of the products was too high, harming the margin.

“We only have ink at the moment [para cabelo e rosto]. The foam ran out this morning and, according to the supplier, he can no longer deliver until Friday”, says Ferreira.
