The month of October is a crucial time to disseminate information about breast cancer

Manaus (AM) – Breast cancer is the most common type among women in the world and in Brazil, accounting for around 25% of new cases each year, according to the National Cancer Institute (INCA). In Amazonas, the estimate is that by 2025 there will be around 15 thousand new cases of the disease.

To raise awareness and alert the population about the importance of prevention and early detection of breast cancer, the “Pink October” movement was created. The campaign began in the United States in the 1990s and has since gained momentum around the world. The objective is to draw attention to the need for early diagnosis of the disease, which can increase the chances of a cure.

The month of October is a crucial time to disseminate information about breast cancer. As medical oncologist Dr. Najla Pinheiro highlights, it is important for women of all ages to be aware of the signs of the disease and undergo preventive exams regularly.

“Awareness about the prevention and early detection of breast cancer is essential to saving lives,”

Self exam

Breast self-examination is one of the simplest and most effective ways to detect breast cancer early. It can be performed monthly by the women themselves, at home or in the bath. Furthermore, it is essential to schedule regular medical appointments, including clinical exams and mammograms, depending on your age and personal history.

For the oncologist, adopting a healthy lifestyle is also essential in preventing breast cancer.

“This includes maintaining a balanced diet, practicing physical activity regularly and avoiding harmful habits, such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption,”

adds Dr. Najla Pinheiro.

Throughout the month of October, Clínica Oncológica do Brasil carries out activities and events to raise awareness about breast cancer. These actions include informative lectures, awareness campaigns and distribution of educational materials.
