Paraná is the state in the South region with the largest number of pizzerias in operation. According to a study by Apubra – Associação Pizzarias Unidas do Brasil, the Brazilian pizzeria market has grown by 499% in the last ten years and the state has recorded an accumulated growth of 330% in the period. In a decade, the number of pizzerias in Paraná increased from 988 (2012) to 4,248 (2022) active establishments.
With this number of pizzerias in Paraná, the state now occupies fifth place in the national ranking, just after Bahia, in fourth, Minas Gerais in third, Rio de Janeiro in second place and São Paulo in first place. In recent years, the southern region of Brazil has had a strong presence in the sector.
Currently, the region has 15% of all active pizzerias across the country. Within this index, the state of Paraná has 6% of active stores, followed by Santa Catarina, with 5% and Rio Grande do Sul, with 4%.
“Today, Paraná is considered the fifth state with the largest number of active pizzerias in all of Brazil. This growth is a reflection of the market movement in Paraná in recent years, which jumped from 3644 units opened in 2021 to 4248 in 2022, with the opening of more than 600 establishments in this period”, comments Gustavo Cardamoni, president of Apubra.
The information was extracted from Apubra’s partnership with companies specializing in databases, which comprise establishments registered with the Federal Revenue, in active status, until December 2022. The study also follows the criteria established in qualitative research, carried out directly by Apubra , which, as it achieved a relevant number of results, adopted as a research criterion to analyze market data only from companies belonging to the National Classification of Economic Activities (CNAE) 56 and self-identified as pizzerias.
It is important to highlight that the final number presented in the content does not correspond to the total number of pizzerias operating in Brazil. This is a sampling and it is estimated that this data corresponds to 75% of the market. “It is a great satisfaction for us to complete this study, which we hope will serve as a guide for all professionals working in the pizza market, from entrepreneurs to suppliers, to those who aspire to be entrepreneurs in the sector. We understand the need to invest in constant training and reinforce our commitment to this mission”, says the president of the association.
