Hospital Nilton Lins provides weekly gynecological care at its headquarters in the Parque das Laranjeiras neighborhood
Manaus (AM) – Breast cancer is the most common type of disease among women, with an impact on their lives, their loved ones and society as a whole. In Amazonas, estimates from the National Cancer Institute (Inca) indicate 500 new cases in the state this year alone.
The gynecologist at Hospital Nilton Lins (HNL), Soledad Borborema, highlights that the mobilization and awareness generated by the ‘Pink October’ campaign is important for breaking taboos and encouraging women to seek medical assistance, which is reflected in the significant increase in the number of patients seeking the health unit’s offices during the period.
The specialist adds that early detection – carried out mainly through periodic self-examination – increases the chances of treatment and cure, and in many cases, without the need even for treatments such as chemotherapy.
“’Pink October’ is a constant reminder of the need to take care of women’s health throughout the year. In addition to self-examination outside the menstrual period, it is essential to undergo annual ultrasound and mammography exams, starting at the age of 40”,
adds Soledad.
Uterus
The gynecologist also warns that in addition to breast cancer, Amazonians should be aware of cervical cancer. According to Inca, the State leads national estimates, with an average of 31.71 cases for every 100 thousand women (a rate four times higher than that of São Paulo) and by 2026, 1.8 thousand new cases should be diagnosed.
Soledad highlights that unlike the breast, the disease in the cervix can be prevented and avoided through the vaccine against HPV (Human Papillomavirus Virus), which has been made available free of charge by the Unified Health System since 2014 for girls and boys aged 9 to 14 years old, and for adult women.
The specialist also highlights the importance of a healthy and balanced life, with frequent physical activity, not smoking and a natural, low-sugar diet.
Exclusive exams
Nilton Lins Hospital provides gynecological services weekly at its headquarters in the Parque das Laranjeiras neighborhood, in the center-south area of Manaus, by scheduling appointments via WhatsApp (92) 3643-2133. In addition to private care, HNL has an agreement with the You Saúde plans, the Army Health Fund (Fusex), the Brazilian Bar Association and the Amazonas Court of Justice.
The hospital also has exclusive exam packages for women, which include gynecological consultations with follow-up and return, complete blood count, glucose, thyroid and hormone tests, Pap smears, preventive exams and breast and transvaginal ultrasounds.
For future mothers, HNL developed the prenatal package, with various tests for diseases such as syphilis, rubella, hepatitis B, C and HIV and which also includes blood type and complete blood count.
