Number of international tourists in Brazil doubles in 2023 – News of Brazil

Brazil received more than 2.97 million international tourists in the first five months of 2023.
The number represents a growth of 108% compared to the same period in 2022, according to data released by the Ministry of Tourism.
More than 292,300 visitors from other countries entered Brazilian destinations in May, an increase of 44.5% compared to May of last year.
Most of the international tourists who entered Brazil, from January to May, came from Argentina (1.2 million). Then come the United States (271 thousand visitors), Paraguay (215.5 thousand tourists), Chile (197.8 thousand) and Uruguay (84.9 thousand).
The Brazilian states where most international travelers entered were São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná and Santa Catarina.
SPENDING — In May, foreign tourists left US$ 567 million in the country — the highest volume for the month in the historical series registered by the Central Bank since 1998. Until then, the spending record for the month of May had been registered in 2014, when tourists from other countries left US$ 525 million in Brazil. Last year, spending by this public in the same period was US$ 373 million.
In the accumulated result for this year, international visitors have already injected US$ 2.721 billion (about R$ 13 billion) into the Brazilian economy, 35.9% more than last year.
