“New framework is balanced”, says Bruno Dantas

The president of the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), Bruno Dantas, informed that the proposal for the new fiscal framework presented last week by the government is “balanced”, because it “clearly sets the ceiling and the floor to concentrate the priorities” .

“We did not have access to the text of the bill that will be sent to Congress, but what was made public is balanced,” said Dantas during the program Roda Viva, on TV Cultura, on Monday night (3).

According to the president of the TCU, there are some priorities that the government needs to take into account in order to guarantee “fiscal governance”. “There is a promise to zero the primary deficit as early as 2024. That depends, of course, and everyone is talking, on finding R$ 130 billion in revenues for that number to be feasible”, he said.

He informed that he will present this Tuesday (4th) to the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, a proposal to create a “committee for fiscal modernization”, based on the model of the United States, created in 1950. “The committee has a institutional dialogue table with all actors in the budget cycle. 1st who plans, 2nd who executes, and 3rd who supervises. In this case, the Ministries of Planning and Budget, Finance and the Federal Audit Court would form part of this committee”, he added.

In the interview, Dantas spoke about the PEC of Precatorios, the fight against fake news, the impeachment of former president Dilma Rousseff and also informed that the court will analyze the accounts of the government of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on June 7. Regarding the case of jewels in Saudi Arabia, he stated that this confusion is related to a patrimonialism inserted in Brazilian culture, in which public agents would still have “a lot of difficulty in separating the public from the private”.

Bruno Dantas took over the presidency of TCU in December 2022. Born in Salvador, capital of Bahia, the minister has a degree in law and was a civil servant at the Federal District Court of Justice. He was also Legislative Consultant of the Federal Senate for 11 years.
