NASA reported, this Tuesday (2), that it is analyzing an object that fell from the sky and hit a man’s home in the American state of Florida, which may have come from the International Space Station (ISS).

Alejandro Otero, from Naples, posted on X, formerly Twitter, that the object “crossed the roof and two floors” of his house, and narrowly missed hitting his son, on the afternoon of March 8.

“Hello. Looks like one of those pieces missed Ft Myers and landed at my house in Naples [na Flórida]”, wrote Alejandro, in by the ISS in 2021.

In the publication on X above, the man shows a video in which it is possible to hear a noise that, according to him, is caused by the object falling into his house.

According to official forecasts, these remains would burn without causing damage in the Earth’s atmosphere that day.

The news was first reported by local media winknews.com, on the 15th.

In a note to AFP, NASA stated that it had collected an object, “with the collaboration of the owner of the house” and that “it will be analyzed as soon as possible at the Kennedy Space Center, located in Florida, to determine its origin”.

A report from the specialized vehicle Ars Technica highlights that, although the batteries are owned by NASA, they were attached to a structure on a platform launched by the Japanese space agency, which could make accountability difficult.

Other human-generated space debris that has fallen to Earth includes part of a SpaceX Dragon capsule that struck a sheep farm in Australia in 2022.

More recently, China was criticized by NASA for allowing its giant rockets to fall to Earth.
