“Espelho de Si” features 25 authorial paintings, produced exclusively by students
Manaus (AM) – At the Presidente Castelo Branco State School (EE), west of Manaus, more than one hundred students, from the 1st year of high school, participated in the organization of an artistic exhibition at the teaching unit. The “Espelho de Si” has 25 authorial paintings, produced exclusively by the students, in the form of self-portraits. The exhibition will be available to the entire school community over the next few weeks.
With the aim of promoting respect and diversity among students, the theme of self-portrait and identity was the approach chosen by Professor Andrea Melo, coordinator of the initiative.
“I noticed that students had difficulty feeling a sense of belonging and recognizing the ‘I’. How do young people see themselves? How would he like to be seen? The students sought the answer through introspection, with artistic experimentation in class”, explained the teacher, who teaches the Arts discipline.
Preparation
The preparation for the “Espelho de Si” took place in the classroom, with the contextualization of the concepts that would be used by the students. In expository classes, students learned about the concepts of self-portrait, identity, creation processes, painting techniques, vernissage, etc.
The groups worked with mixed drawing-collage and photo-collage techniques, in addition to producing paintings with gouache paint. During the process, the students chose a personal photo, which served as a reference for the sketch of the paintings produced.
vernissage
One of the topics learned in the classroom, the vernissage is a well-known moment in the artistic world, which marks the first day of exhibitions around the world. With the aim of bringing exhibiting artists and guests closer together, the event also took place at EE Presidente Castelo Branco, starting “Espelho de Si”.
On the occasion, the artists whose works were selected presented their paintings to those present, with comments on their inspirations and processes. The vernissage was attended by the entire school body, including students, teachers and pedagogues.
“Here, we seek to value all forms of building knowledge. In this sense, art is very efficient, because it enables personal expression, exposing feelings. As teenagers, they live with a lot of changes, so this space is necessary”, emphasized Vanda Mara, manager of the teaching unit.
Expression
And it was in this pedagogical activity that student Misael Santos, 16, was able to expose what he felt. The student shared that while making his board, he felt free. In the drawing, Misael wears jersey number 7, the number of her favorite athlete.
“Art helps express feelings, things I can’t say, but I can show. My self portrait is my multiverse. I see in him a world where I can be inspired. In the midst of the difficulties I have in my life, I always try to stay on the right path”, he highlighted.
