Minas conducts Census in the state pension system – 07/07/2023 – Market

Retirees, pensioners and active servants who are members of Ipsemg (Institute of Social Security of Minas Gerais) began to be submitted to a Census, the first carried out by the state government. Anyone who does not respond to the survey, which will be done on the institute’s website, will have the benefit suspended.

Ipsemg has a total of 424,000 fans, of which 244,000 are retired, 40,000 are pensioners and 140,000 are active employees.

In 2020, according to data released by the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais, based on the state government, Ipsemg’s expenses were greater than revenues by R$ 13.5 billion.

That year, a social security reform presented by Governor Romeu Zema (Novo) was approved in the Legislative Assembly. According to information from the institute, between 2019 and 2022 the institute’s actuarial deficit was reduced by 23.38%. The total benefits paid in 2022 was BRL 2.6 billion.

The report asked Ipsemg’s advisory for a representative for an interview. The request was not granted.

At least officially, the purpose of the Census is to confirm data on the contingent of beneficiaries of the system, as well as their dependents.

The institute did not answer whether the Census also aims to comb through the payment of benefits, or whether there are suspicions of irregularities in payments.

To the questions asked by the reporter, he replied that the Census is an obligation foreseen after the approval of the law.

“The objective is to carry out a survey of the registration data of policyholders and beneficiaries, keeping them updated and compatible with the national database managed by the Ministry of Social Security”, said the institute, in a note.

The Census began on June 19th and runs until December 15th, with defined periods for each type of beneficiary.

“I emphasize here that the Census is mandatory for all pensioners, retirees and active state servants, and it is essential for updating Minas Gerais registration data with the Ministry of Social Security”, said Zema in a video on social networks.

The first stage of the Census will run from June 19th to July 31st and will be aimed exclusively at pensioners. The second phase will run from August 7th to October 23rd, for retirees. Active servants benefiting from Ipsemg participate in the survey between October 13th and December 15th.

In the video, the governor also says that pensioners and retirees who do not respond to the Census will have their benefit suspended until they regularize this situation. Active servants, on the other hand, may suffer administrative measures that are being evaluated by Ipsemg and by Seplag (Secretary of State for Planning).
