Medical expertise: INSS tests to reduce cancellations – 06/05/2023 – Market

The INSS (National Institute of Social Security) launched last Friday (2) a pilot project to try to reduce the number of cancellations of medical expertise due to the applicant’s non-attendance.

The test will be carried out for at least two months in the city of Caruaru (PE) and will be carried out by Central 135. An operator will contact the person who requested the test to confirm the visit to the medical expert on the scheduled day.

If the beneficiary cannot attend, a new date will be rescheduled. Calls will be made between 8am and 6pm, Monday through Friday.

The expectation is that the project will improve by 20% the number of attendance to scheduled expertise. If the initiative has the expected result, it can be expanded to the rest of the country.

In April of this year, 1.05 million Brazilians were awaiting medical expertise, according to data from the Ministry of Social Security. The number is 13.3% higher than that recorded in December 2022, when there were 930.6 thousand in line.

The queue for expertise has been hampered by some factors since 2020. The Covid pandemic, which caused INSS agencies to be closed for seven months, strikes by experts and institute employees and the high number of servers retiring made the queue reach 1.008 million in May 2022.

About two thirds of the medical expertise requested are related to disability benefits. Another 20% is related to the BPC (Continued Provision Benefit), paid to low-income elderly and people with disabilities, while a smaller part includes special retirement due to exposure to agents harmful to health.

Minister Carlos Lupi, of Social Security, believes that the pilot project can help reduce this queue. “Active contact by telephone and SMS is one more advance that we are implementing towards a more efficient and qualified service. Technology is fundamental for the continuous progress of the ministry and the INSS”, he stated.

The pilot project will have the participation of 50 attendants from the center in Caruaru. Professionals are already undergoing training and will follow a standard adopted for confirmations or rescheduling, in order to improve the service flow.

In addition to receiving the pilot project, the Pernambuco city was the first to receive the service effort to release the BPC, a benefit worth one minimum wage (R$ 1,320) paid to low-income policyholders aged 65 and over or who are people with a disability.

The mutirão took place last Saturday and Sunday, and aims to reduce the queue in granting the benefit. The next cities to receive the action will be Manaus (AM), Imperatriz (MA) and Montes Claros (MG).
