Amis is considered an influential novelist alongside writers such as Salman Rushdie, Ian McEwan and Julian Barnes. His works marked British literature in the 1980s and 1990s. Among his works are “Zona de Interest” and “Money”, the latter, from 1984, included in the list of the 100 best English language books by “The Guardian”. Amis was born in 1949 in Oxford and was educated at schools in Britain, Spain and the United States before going to Exeter College, Oxford, where he graduated at the top of his class. According to the paper, he credited his stepmother, novelist Elizabeth Jane Howard, with waking him up to literature during his teens. “She gave me a reading list and after an hour I went and knocked on her office door and said, ‘I need to know: Is Elizabeth marrying Darcy?'”
