Manaus starts Carnival season, this weekend, with traditional bands

This weekend, blocks and bands of great prestige will be present in the main avenues and streets of the capital of Amazonas, making the revelers of Manaus happy.

Players can enjoy the most varied options. O “Axerito Block 2023”, takes place this Saturday (11), at Espaço Via Torres, North Zone of Manaus. The event starts at 5 pm, with musical attractions and a free track. The following attractions are on the program: Kelton Piloto, John Veiga, Vanessa Auzier, Banda Xiado Eletrizado, Meu Xodó, Uendel Pinheiro and DJ Layla Abreu (in the intervals). The event has free entry to the track, but will have a VIP and cabin, in addition to block abadás.

Also on Saturday, starting at 3:30 pm, the most traditional band in Manaus will take place. A Independent Band Confraria do Armando (Bica) which, this year, will celebrate the 60 years of existence of Bar do Armando, a stronghold of tourists and Amazonians, with the theme “Only those who have died don’t go to BICA at 60: it’s a party for saints, bohemians and atheists! ”. The event is open to the public.

This year’s Bica theme pays homage to the bar’s anniversary, which has already been listed as Cultural and Intangible Heritage of the State of Amazonas. This year’s attractions will be: Márcia Novo, Banda Demônios da Tasmânia, Banda Laser and Battery Show by United Kingdom of Freedom.

The band will take place on Rua Dez de Julho, downtown Manaus, with the Teatro Amazonas and other buildings in the Historic Center as a backdrop. A traditional band from Manaus, Bica is known for creating marchinhas based on controversial themes.

For the children, the world of Bita holds, on Saturday, the children’s carnival block. The show will take place in the Foyer of Teatro Manauara, from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm, at Manauara Shopping. The gang formed by Flora, Bita, Lila, Dan and Tito will get the kids to join in the fun with a lively repertoire, colorful scenery and imagination.

The party will feature a series of recreational activities, a giant doll, as well as great hits from Mundo Bita such as “Fazendinha”, which has more than 1 billion views on YouTube, Palco de Brinquedos, Feito Jacaré and, of course, “Carnaval do Bita ”. The cow, Dona Girafa and the little pig are guests of this great revelry and take the stage full of animation.

Carnival festivities also do not leave anything to be desired on Sunday (12). A Boulevard Band prepared a great tribute to the Amazonian saxophonist Rudeimar Soares Teixeira, known as Teixeira de Manaus. The band takes place, from 3 pm, on Boulevard Álvaro Maia. The title of this year’s samba is “Teixeira de Manaus é Beiradão: Cultura do Amazonas em Canção”.

The organizers of the block included the use of the saxophone in the band, in homage to samba, but the traditional instruments do not lose their space, such as the cavaco, tambourine, surdo, rattle, cuíca, among others.

The writer and poet, Tenório Telles, spoke about the choice of the band’s theme.

“Popular culture has bequeathed great artists to our country in all cultural segments, especially in music. In our land, musical talents are prodigal and have built, over the years, works of undeniable value that portray the life, struggle and dreams of our people. Among these creators of art and beauty, the figure of Teixeira de Manaus stands out, one of the most talented and respected musicians in the Amazon. He is part of the imagination of several generations who danced to the rhythm of his magic saxophone ”,

explains.

Tenório also highlights another aspect that attests to the importance of the saxophonist. “It is due to the fact that he helped to stage and project music from the edge of the river beyond our borders – probably the rhythm that best represents us. The music of Teixeira de Manaus expresses the joy and simplicity of our people. Banda do Boulevard reaffirms, with this, once again its commitment to the cultural history of our city by electing Teixeira de Manaus and his work as the motto for its 2023 carnival”, he stresses.
