Lula’s minister says outsourcing is “cousin of slave labor”

Minister Luiz Marinho, of Labor and Employment, classified the expansion of the possibility of outsourcing a function, approved in the 2017 labor reform, as a “cousin-sister of slave labor”.

The statement was given in an interview published by the website metropolises this Tuesday (11), in which he criticized the change promoted during the government of Michel Temer (MDB) after the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff (PT).

“Outsourcing is the sister cousin of slave labor. It has grown a lot, worrying growth,” she said.

Despite the criticism, Marinho avoided talking about a possible “revocation” of the new outsourcing law and other points of the reform, as advocated by PT members during the 2022 election campaign. However, he said that the government has been working on a project with central unions and employers to send to Congress.

Marinho says that he demands proposals from the union centrals almost every week, and that he needs to “accelerate this understanding process”.

“Almost three months have passed, we don’t have four more years (of government). We need to speed up this understanding process. The goal of the unions themselves is to consolidate this conversation in the first semester”, he added.

Monitoring of workers in grain harvests

The minister also commented on the operations that find workers in conditions analogous to slavery, of which more than 920 have already been rescued since the beginning of the year. And that the ministry plans to monitor hiring for each grain harvest.

According to Luiz Marinho, businessmen should not be frightened by inspections. “I didn’t come here with a whip in my hand to punish companies. We want to draw the attention of companies to take responsibility with workers”, he said.

The first agreement for monitoring hiring should be closed with coffee producers.
