Lula says he will present a project to guarantee wage parity between men and women on March 8 – 02/28/2023 – Market

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Tuesday (28) that he will present on March 8, on International Women’s Day, a law that guarantees equal pay for men and women who perform the same function.

The Chief Executive must send a project to the National Congress. The Legislature has to approve the text so that it returns to the representative to be sanctioned and, then, become a law in force in the country.

In his speech, the PT quoted the Minister of Planning, Simone Tebet, who defended the proposal in the first round of last year’s elections. She supported Lula in the second round and, in exchange, the PT started to defend the project.

“Finally, Simone, now, on Women’s Day, we are going to definitively present the law that will guarantee that the woman definitely receives the same salary as the man if she performs the same function as the man”, he said.

He said that it will be up to the Labor Court and the Public Ministry of Labor to inspect whether the legislation will be complied with.

“Every time you go looking for this law, it seems that it exists, but there are so many nuances, there are so many commas before the ‘D’, after the D, that everything is done so that women do not have the right. So, it is necessary to make a law that says: ‘women must earn the same salary as men'”, said the president.

The president’s speeches took place during a ceremony at the Planalto Palace for the reinstallation of Consea (National Council for Food and Nutritional Security).

The council, which advises the presidency on matters related to food security, had been extinguished by Jair Bolsonaro (PL), in one of the first acts of his mandate. Lula reestablished the body with the integral members that composed it at the time of its dissolution.

In his speech, Lula also announced that the government should launch next Thursday (2) the new Bolsa Familia. “Along with the launch of the new program comes a lot of new stuff,” he said.

In addition, he stated that the program to withdraw the names of citizens who are on credit restriction lists is ready and could be launched in the next few days.

“We have to find a way to solve this, that’s why Fernando Haddad [ministro da Fazenda] is discussing to find a proposal that these people get rid of these debts and can be citizens with the right to buy, make credit once again”, he said.
