Lula defends discussing “spending limits” with Congress after increased revenue

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated this Thursday (7) that the government may discuss with Congress the possibility of changing the spending limit to enable new works. The president said that the eventual change could be considered as “collection is increasing beyond what many people expected”.
Lula spoke during the event to present results of the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) Seleções, at Palácio do Planalto.
According to the Federal Revenue Service, revenue increased by 6.7% and reached R$280 billion in January this year. The result was the highest monthly collection recorded in the entire historical series, which began in 1995.
“Collection is increasing beyond what many people expected. Of course we have a spending limit, that, when we have more money, we will have to discuss this spending limit with the Chamber and the Senate and we will see how we can use more money to make more benefits for the people. What is important is that you are clear that no one will be left out”, said the president.
The fiscal framework, approved last year, limited the increase in spending to 70% of the real increase in revenue. In addition, the new standard determines that, to avoid rigidity in expenses, every year it will grow at least 0.6% and at most 2.5%, based on the real variation in revenue.
