*) The decision involving the distribution of extraordinary dividends to Petrobras shareholders caused an internal crisis in the government, dissatisfaction in the financial market and, of course, more controversial policies involving the company.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) went so far as to say things like: Petrobras should not only think about investor shareholders.

The position of the advisors appointed by the government in defense of retaining the dividends would have been influenced by Alexandre Silveira, minister of Mines and Energy, against the will of Jean Paul Prates, president of the company. On Monday, both were called to a long meeting at Palácio do Planalto.

After the meeting, in conversation with journalists, Haddad contemporized the episode and said that there is the possibility of the extraordinary profits being distributed at another time, depending on “convenience”.
