Lohn celebrates 9 years with Carvoeira Nitro, inspired by Guinness – 12/12/2023 – Full Cup

Widely known brewery in the southern region of the country, Lohn Bier, from Lauro Müller (SC), has reached nine years with an important role in the short history of crafts in Brazil.

To celebrate the anniversary, the brand is promoting the relaunch of one of its most awarded labels, the Carvoeira imperial stout, which has a canned version with nitrogen, Carvoeira Nitro. Inspired by the famous Guinness, it simulates that same waterfall effect in the glass.

“Nitro gives the beer a creamier characteristic in the foam, while it also becomes more liqueur over time in the glass. This is the second time we have made it like this and there is, unfortunately, little supply with Nitro in Brazilian beers” , says Richard Westphal Brighenti, founding partner of Lohn.

Although Guinness is the inspiration, Carvoeira Nitro is an imperial stout, with 9.5% alcohol, much more than the classic Irish dry stout. But even because of this, the result is a more liqueur beer.

Created in 2014, Lohn Bier was part of the first years of the dissemination and proliferation of Catharina sour, recognized as the first Brazilian style of beer — the version with bergamot (or tangerine) is a great tip for the summer.

And when the discussion about Brazilian hops was still in its infancy, the brewery had already carried out two experiments: Green Bally and Toda Nossa, in partnership with Ambev, using hops that flourished in the mountains of Santa Catarina.

“We’re nine years old, but we feel like we’ve been in this business for four decades,” says Brighenti. “We have a lot to contribute to the beer market and our focus is on consumers”, she adds.
