Jamie xx plays Tom Zé and heady electronics for a dispersed audience on the electronic stage of Lolla 2023

An English DJ closed the night on the Perry Stage while Twenty One Pilots headlined. He remixed Tom Zé for an audience looking for a ballad. Jamie XX plays “Complexo de Épico”, a song by Tom Zé While Twenty One Pilots did mischief and played “Girl from Ipanema” on the main stage at the end of the 2nd night, English DJ Jamie xx played a remix of “Complexo de Épico” , by Tom Zé, to an audience with a question mark on the electronic stage of Lollapalooza 2023 this Saturday (25). The audience wasn’t large and was dispersed, in the space that usually receives more commercial DJs in a kind of closing ballad for those who skip the main show. But there were people dancing to the producer’s set, one of the most creative in pop today. The 34-year-old London-based DJ and producer is frontman of The xx, an electronic pop group that grew out of the English alternative scene with slow, atmospheric electronic pop. They played one of the most remarkable shows in the history of Lollapalooza SP, and caused a stir among the public in 2017. But, in his solo career, Jamie makes a less melodic sound and more for the dance floor. It also incorporates rap vocals and reggae and dub bases, different from the trio. The show went through soul, disco and techno – this one a little more well received. He also plays singles and tracks from his only solo record, “In Color” (2015), such as “Gosh”. If the set points towards his next solo album, it should be heavier and even more distant than what he does with the two friends. Those who thought they were going to listen to the group’s songs had to settle for just dancing. Twenty One Pilots replaced Blink 182, who were highly anticipated and canceled at the last minute. Slightly less strong competition could have helped Jamie xx, but that wasn’t the case.
