Intern Day: Experience is essential in the training of qualified professionals

Manaus (AM) – This Friday, August 18th, Intern Day is celebrated, a date that highlights the important contribution of this phase both in the routine of companies and in the training of future professionals. According to the latest survey by the Brazilian Association of Internships (Abres), the country had, by 2020, about 900,000 interns, 214,000 at a medium and technical level, and 686,000 at a higher level. In the North region, there were 23,000 trainees in both modalities.

According to Law 11.788/2008, which currently governs the norms of these hirings, the internship is part of the pedagogical project of the courses, aiming at learning skills specific to the professional activity, a crucial opportunity for students to experience, in practice, what learned in the classroom, consolidating knowledge and developing essential skills for their future career.

Richaelly Pinheiro dos Santos, 23, finalist in the pharmacy course, will celebrate the first Intern Day with a great opportunity. On the 21st of August, she will begin her supervised internship at one of the stores of Grupo Tapajós, a company based in Manaus.

“I found out about the vacancy through college. There, they value this company a lot, for the performance it has been having in the drug market. I hope to learn a lot from them. I see that all the people who come in, leave with a huge didactic load, talking very highly about how much they learned”,

says the university.

The young woman is among the 100 students who will do an internship at Grupo Tapajós through a partnership with Centro Universitário do Norte (Uninorte) and Faculdade Estácio. The program, which started in 2019, has already contributed to the professional training of 415 Pharmacy course finalists in the capital. According to the company’s Human Resources sector, more than half (60%) were hired after graduation.

“I definitely intend to be hired by the company later. It really is something that I look forward to, that I intend to pursue during my time there”,

says Richaelly dos Santos.

Opportunities

A little over a year ago, assistant manager Raimunda da Silva Santos, 40, did not work in that capacity. In March 2022, she joined Grupo Tapajós as an intern in the same program that is now starting a new class. At the end of the internship period, vacancies for the position of sales consultant appeared and Raimunda did not miss the opportunity to apply.

“I participated in a selection process, took the tests and was selected. Since I was still in college, I studied in the morning and worked in the afternoon. I stayed in that position for almost a year until I graduated and soon after I was promoted to assistant manager at the company”,

tells the pharmacist.

Satisfied with the trajectory she followed at the company, today she says she is grateful for the internship program and advises other students to value this period in their professional training.

“For those who want a successful career, a good salary, the internship is the first and big step for the student to learn everything that governs the profession, the laws, the routine of the market, everything”,

explains the professional.

Apprenticeship

Organizational development coordinator for the Tapajós Group, Elaine de Sousa Araújo explains that the group’s internship program provides for a 240-hour work contract, about two months. At the end of the period, there is an evaluation with the management of the sector that conducted the internship. If there are vacancies and the student meets the prerequisites, he can apply.

“Usually, they start at the company as cashiers and, after six months, they can apply for internal processes, as we have career plans. In addition, we boost employee learning with the Corporate University, an internal platform of courses that is free for all”,

declares the coordinator.

Regardless of hiring, the internship has as its main premise the creation of a space that allows the student to learn about the profession, in practice. According to pharmacist Ada Maria da Rosa, responsible for Grupo Tapajós’ Corporate University, interns find this environment at the company.

“Our interns learn about the different trade names, laboratories, product categories and work in drugstores. They see, for example, the entry and exit of products from the National Controlled Products Management System (SNGPC), which will be used by them in the future, they learn about the laws that govern prescriptions, pharmaceutical services such as the application of injectables and remote laboratory tests” ,

he said.
