Indigenous writers participate in the autograph session during the Book Fair in Manaus

Manaus (AM) – The Sesc Amazonas Book Fair started on the 5th, and continues until the 8th, at the Vasco Vasques Convention Center, located on Avenida Constantino Nery, Chapada neighborhood. And during the literary event, Valer will hold autograph sessions with some of its indigenous authors, Jaime Diákara and Ytanajé Cardoso, at 7:30 pm, at the publisher’s stand.

According to Professor Neiza Teixeira, PhD in Philosophy and editorial coordinator at Valer, it is Valer’s tradition to bring readers and authors together and hold this unique meeting at the event.

“Literary fairs are places where readers can meet authors, considering that they are also programmed for this purpose. The Sesc fair has a Café Literário, where readers can listen to their favorite authors or meet new ones, and the publisher Valer will organize several autograph sessions at its stand, aiming to promote meetings between authors and readers”,

Jaime Diakara

Author Jaime Diakara

Indigenous to the Dessana people of the Wari Diputiro Porã Group. He has a degree in Indigenous Intercultural Pedagogy from the State University of Amazonas (UEA), a master’s degree in Social Anthropology from the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), cultural agent, writer, indigenous teacher, knowledgeable about Dessana cosmology, storyteller and illustrator.

This book is part of the Nheengatu edition, which aims to bring children and adolescents knowledge of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon.

Ytanajé Cardoso

Author Ytanajé Cardoso

PhD in Education (2019-2023), from the Federal University of Amazonas. Master’s degree in Literature and Arts (2015-2017), from the State University of Amazonas. Degree in Literature – Portuguese Language (2011-2014), from the State University of Amazonas. He was a fellow at the Amazonas State Research Support Foundation, from graduation to doctorate. Professor at the Department of Education and Sports of Amazonas (SEDUC), since 2016. He worked as a substitute professor at the Federal University of Amazonas (2018-2020). He has worked as a collaborating professor for the Indigenous Intercultural Pedagogy courses at the State University of Amazonas since 2017. He is part of the Amazon Language Studies Center – NEL-AMAZÔNIA (UFAM) and the Study and Research Group on Indigenous and Ethnography (UEA). He is a writer, author of the work Canumã: a travessia (2019). He works in the areas of indigenous languages, indigenous literature, indigenous school education, discourse analysis, language policies.

“Canumã: the crossing”, by Yatanjé Cardoso. This book records the author Munduruku’s concern for the future of his relatives. In the form of a novel, it presents its people and their most pressing problems.

About the Fair

From the 5th to the 7th of October, the event will take place from 8am to 10pm, on the 8th/10th it will be held from 8am to 6pm.

This year, the event will honor the poet and journalist Jorge Tufic Alaúzo, one of the founders of Clube da Madrugada and author of the lyrics of the Anthem of Amazonas. Tufic was born in the city of Sena Madureira, in Acre, and lived in Manaus in his youth, a time when he dedicated himself to studies and work as a journalist.

In 1956, the writer began his career in literature with the work “Varanda de Pássaros”, from which he released more than 30 works that contributed to the literary scene of the time, standing out as one of the biggest names in Amazonian literature. He was also a member of the Academia Amazonense de Letras, in which he held chair no. 18.

The books published by Valer are: “Balcony of birds” (1956), rescue collection (4th edition, 2005); “When the nights flew” (1999), (2nd edition 2011); “A guest named Hansen” (2009).
