According to the Tax Authorities, the deadline, one month longer than in previous years, aims to allow taxpayers to take advantage of the pre-filled declaration. The Federal Revenue reported this Tuesday (14) that the deadline for submitting the Individual Income Tax declaration 2023 (base year 2022) begins on March 15 and runs until May 31. Usually, the deadline for delivery goes until the end of April – as happened last year. With this, taxpayers will have, this year, a longer period to present the document to the Tax Authorities. According to the Federal Revenue Service, the purpose of the change is to allow all taxpayers to benefit from the pre-filled declaration from the beginning of the delivery period. This declaration model allows filling in almost all information automatically. According to the national supervisor of the Income Tax Program, tax auditor José Carlos Fernandes da Fonseca, the pre-filled declaration provides fewer errors and greater convenience to the taxpayer. “As most of the information that will be made available to taxpayers in the pre-filled declaration will reach the Federal Revenue at the end of February, there is a need for a deadline for data consolidation”, added the IR supervisor. Pre-filled statement The pre-filled statement option has existed since 2014, but it was necessary to have a digital certificate to use it, which restricted the number of users. Last year, the pre-filled statement could be used by all taxpayers with a gov.br account at the gold or silver levels. This type of declaration has information related to income, deductions, assets and rights, and real debts and encumbrances, which are loaded automatically, without the need for typing. The feature allows filling out almost the entire declaration automatically, based on the Withholding Tax Declaration (Dirf) of paying legal entities, real estate companies and health service providers. Taxpayer information from the previous year is also used. In 2022, the Federal Revenue reminded taxpayers that it was their responsibility to verify the correctness of all data pre-filled in the declaration, “must make the changes, inclusions and exclusions of the necessary information, if applicable”.
