In Lula’s 100 days, businessmen see noise and advances – 09/04/2023 – Panel SA

On the eve of the 100 days of the Lula government, the tax reform is at the top of expectations and the interest rate tops the concerns of associations representing various sectors of the business community.

In the opinion of José Velloso, executive president of Abimaq (Brazilian Association of Machinery and Equipment Industry), the tax reform is one of the priorities to guarantee the competitiveness of the industry.

“It is important that Brazil has fiscal responsibility, that this framework is fulfilled and that we manage to reduce interest rates”, says Velloso.

Sergio Mena Barreto, CEO of Abrafarma, asks the sector for different treatment in the reform to reduce the tax burden, but says that the government has not shown signs that this demand will be met.

Carlos Eduardo Gouvêa, from Abiis (also from the health sector), calls for administrative reform.

“Not only the tax, which is already under discussion, and which should treat the health segment in a neutral way, but also look at the issue of the fiscal framework. , administrative reform”, says Gouvêa.

In the opinion of Paulo Solmucci, from Abrasel (bars and restaurants), the government could have avoided noise, but he says that the sector is “confident that the initial difficulties can be overcome”.

For the biofuel sector, the balance of the first 100 days of the Lula government met expectations. According to Donizete Tokarski, from Ubrabio (Brazilian Union of Biodiesel and Biokerosene), the dialogue with the segment resulted in raising the mandatory percentage of blending biodiesel with diesel to 12% – the measure was announced by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, last month.

In the opinion of Antonio Britto, executive director of Anahp (association of private hospitals), Lula’s economic team is taking steps in the right direction, but “the government, as a whole, still seems to be trying to build a difficult unit”.
