‘I don’t do a show, I do a show’, says MC Pipokinha about funk with sensual and aggressive dances

The 24-year-old singer says that Pipokinha is a ‘character’ and that controversial presentations are a ‘musical theater’ of sexual funk. She says she still believes in the religion and that the Mormon community has been good to her, but has gone on to pursue her dream of being an MC. She moved to São Paulo without a home. She slept in favor of acquaintances, or in bars and tobacconists when she had no roof. With just a cell phone and borrowed clothes, she got to know people from the funk market and became MC Pipokinha. The uninhibited young woman was called to participate in a YouTube channel with fictional stories on the outskirts of SP. It was on this channel, from MC KM, that she idealized Pipokinha as a character. She soon stood out in videos with the figure of the seductive girl who recalls popular humor shows. Already with thousands of followers on Instagram, she arrived at the funk production company Novo Império. Businessman Wagner Magalhães, known as Vavá, is experienced in funk phenomena and managed MC Fioti’s career at the time of the megahit “Bum bum tam tam” – so much so that he is quoted in the song, in the verse “‘tipo como?
