Hurb dismisses 40% of employees, after government sanction – 05/30/2023 – Market

Hurb laid off, this Tuesday (30), 40% of its employees, according to company employees. The cut reached 400 people, out of a total of 1,000 people, a day after Senacon (National Consumer Secretariat), linked to the Ministry of Justice, determined that the travel platform suspended the sale of flexible packages.

The cut hit receptionists, customer experience supervisors and operations managers, according to LinkedIn posts.

The layoffs affect all areas and aim to ensure the continuity of the travel platform’s business, according to a Hurb statement sent to Sheet.

Hurb said it will not release details of the payroll reduction, such as the number of layoffs, out of respect for the people. “We provide full support to the affected professionals, always respecting labor legislation.”

Flexible packages, in which customers only determine the destination, without defining the date of travel, are Hurb’s main source of revenue. The company is going through an image crisis because of reports of non-payment for hotels and inns that would receive buyers of flexible packages.

The travel platform met with Senacon on the 12th and committed to adopting measures to ensure respect for the consumer, but the National Consumer Secretary, Wadih Damous, said that Hurb was unable to clarify how it would do this.

The suspension aims to prevent damage to consumers, according to Damous.

The company presented, on the 22nd, a restructuring plan considered insufficient by Senacon. On the occasion of the delivery of the document, the current CEO of the company, Otávio Brissan, stated in a note sent to the press that customers who purchased packages with the company would travel, without setting deadlines.

Hurb also had until the 22nd to respond to all complaints registered on the Reclame Aqui platform, which it did, according to the company.

The Hurb website still offers flexible packages this Tuesday. In a note sent to Sheet on Monday, the travel platform told the report that it was not notified by the secretariat and that, for legal reasons, it does not comment on the process.

Senacon’s decision does not affect the sale of packages with a defined date.
