Pato Rei coffee shop, from São Paulo, drew attention this week for launching a strained coffee from the award-winning geisha variety for R$ 128 per cup.
The value aroused the curiosity of many people, who wanted to know what made coffee so special.
It is a grain grown in Panama, at an altitude of 1,650 meters, and fermented with wild yeast.
O coffee in the press tried the drink at the invitation of the cafeteria in São Paulo. What impresses most about this coffee are the very floral notes, as is typical of the geisha variety beans grown in Central America.
As the coffee is served in a low, wide-mouthed ceramic cup, you can smell flowers like jasmine before you even drink it. In the first sips, with it still hot, the floral notes are very evident.
When tasting specialty coffees, it is recommended to wait after the first few sips to try it a little colder. This is because, as the temperature drops, new flavors begin to intensify. In this case, when it cools down, it tastes very fruity.
Coffees of this variety are very aromatic, like teas. Thus, they provide an interesting and exotic experience.
The launch of Pato Rei shows that in São Paulo there is a market for this type of gastronomic extravaganza. According to the partner and person in charge of the house’s coffees, Tiago de Mello, the coffee shop has been selling a few cups a day and a single customer even purchased 15 doses.
The price, however, is prohibitive for most people. like the coffee in the press explained, factors that go beyond flavor contribute to these beans reaching such high values.
But if you want to drink a coffee with very fruity notes and you can’t or don’t want to spend that trifle on a single cup, there’s good news.
Despite the unquestionable uniqueness of Central American geishas, especially Panama, there are excellent beans on the specialty coffee market that produce very elegant, balanced drinks with fruity and floral notes.
