The Lula government’s intention to end the exemption on importing orders of up to US$50 raised a huge debate on social networks last week, but the discussion left out the owner of Havan, Luciano Hang, one of the most involved in the retail movement. and local industry to curb the advance of foreign ecommerces.
Hang remains with restricted access to his profiles on the internet by determination of Minister Alexandre de Moraes. But the businessman’s argument is in favor of the initiative to address the issue.
“The protection of the economy and jobs is a constant concern for me. Therefore, I believe that the fight against unfair competition from international marketplace platforms is an important step in the creation of a fair and balanced market for all”, says the businessman in note.
“I’ve been following this issue closely for some time now and I believe it’s fundamental that foreign companies follow the laws of Brazil. What Brazilian companies fight for is equality. Either foreign companies comply with our country’s laws or the government exempts the large taxation of Brazilian retailers”, he says.
Since last year, Luciano Hang has been engaged in the movement led by retail giants to combat what they call the digital street market.
The matter was taken by businessmen to the Federal Revenue during the Bolsonaro administration, but the unpopular measure was not embraced by the government, which had already entered the atmosphere of the election year.
The former president publicly positioned himself against taxation of purchases on foreign websites and said that he would not sign any provisional measure to tax purchases by applications such as Shopee, AliExpress and Shein.
