Planalto says that accounts had been ‘censored’ by the Jair Bolsonaro administration for expressing ‘diverse’ opinions. Unblocking takes place ‘after careful legal analysis’, says government. The federal government announced this Friday (18) that it will unblock, on the Executive’s official social networks, more than 3,000 users who had been blocked by the Jair Bolsonaro administration on social networks. “There are more than 3,000 profiles that cannot have access to the Esplanada, Government and Presidency networks, as they were censored for having different opinions from the previous administration”, says the government. Still according to the Planalto Palace, the unblocking of these profiles takes place “after careful legal analysis”. Throughout his term, Bolsonaro maintained the habit of blocking profiles that criticized him on social networks. In 2021, a survey by the NGO Human Rights Watch identified 176 blocked accounts, mostly on Twitter, including those of journalists, congressmen and influencers. Profiles of media outlets and NGOs were also on the list. The blockades reached the agenda of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), after a lawyer asked the Justice that Bolsonaro be obliged to unblock it. At the time, the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) assessed that the block was legitimate – remember below: In an opinion, PGR tells the Supreme Court that Bolsonaro can block followers on social networks
