Representative Carlos Zarattini (PT-SP) stated that the Lula government will make an “effort” to pay R$8.2 billion in “Pix amendments” by June 30. The administration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is trying to improve relations with Congress to approve priority agendas. The “Pix amendments” are special transfers made by parliamentarians directly to states and municipalities in their bases.
“The government will certainly pay all fund-to-fund transfers for health and social assistance [das emendas parlamentares impositivas] until June 30th. It’s around R$15 to R$16 billion. In the case of the Pix amendments, the government will make an effort to pay them all by June 30th as well. It’s another R$8 billion”, said Zarattini in an interview with the newspaper Economic value released this Thursday (22). The parliamentarian is deputy leader of the government in Congress.
Earlier, the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, announced the Executive’s commitment to transfer around R$14.5 billion in mandatory parliamentary amendments within the electoral deadline, an initiative that had been vetoed by Lula. The minister met with deputies from the Mixed Budget Committee (CMO). The president has a meeting scheduled this Thursday (22) with the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and with base leaders to discuss priority issues for the Executive.
