The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, said this Tuesday that the government wants to increase the mixture of biodiesel in diesel to 25%. With no set date for reaching the percentage, the change would happen through the bill on the “fuel of the future”, being analyzed by the Legislature, he informed.
The mixture of biodiesel with diesel is currently 12%, and from March it will be 14%, jumping to 15% in 2025.
This timeline is not the original. In December, the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) brought forward the calendar. Originally, the mandatory percentage would rise by one per year until reaching 15% in 2026.
Now, with the change, the 14% starts to take effect in March. And the 15% mix was brought forward to 2025.
The minister’s statement was made during the restructuring of the Social Biofuel Seal, a program to stimulate the production of raw materials for biofuels for family farming, especially in the North, Northeast, Semi-arid regions of Brazil, in addition to the North of Minas and the Jequitinhonha Valley .
Producers included in the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf) obtain the seal and, through it, incentives such as lower taxes.
Alongside the Minister of Agrarian Development, Paulo Teixeira, they announced investments of R$740 million starting in April, and R$1.6 billion, starting in 2025.
“The Social Biofuel Seal is a fundamental instrument, which has already guaranteed the participation of more than 54 thousand family farmers in the biodiesel production chain”, said Silveira.
