Google Calendar: understand the change that affects reminders – 02/23/2023 – Tech

Google will start migrating, this March, the notes made in Google Calendar to its new task application, launched in September. Big tech should turn off traditional reminders in the second half of this year.
Those using the free version of Google services may have already seen the “turn my reminders into tasks now” message. This change allows appointments to be saved in the Google Tasks application, which promises a more dynamic layout than the current agenda format.
Starting in March, the company will start taking notes automatically to Google Tasks, until the eventual deactivation of the option to record reminders in the calendar, which can be used to organize schedules collectively.
Google Calendar, however, will continue to work and already allows the option of recording “tasks”, in which it is possible to add comments to the appointment. The reminder only allows title recording.
According to Google, it may still take a few weeks for this option to migrate reminders to tasks to be available to all users. Anyone who downloads the Google Tasks application can now convert notes on their cell phone.
The option will also apply to reminders created by Google’s audio assistant, which began to be registered as tasks. It has no effect, however, on notes made in the Google Keep virtual notebook, which do not appear in the calendar.
For users of Google Workspace (Microsoft Office’s competitor office suite), the migration will begin on April 12th and will automatically complete on May 22nd. The service is available for BRL 28 monthly or free for non-profit or educational organizations.
According to the technology giant, Google Tasks will be integrated with Docs (text editing application), Gmail, Chat and also with the Google assistant, to provide a voice-guided and hands-free experience.
The new application allows you to organize tasks by appointment date, by priority marking or in the order chosen by the user, which also signals the completion of the task. The layout is similar to other organization platforms like Trello, Keep and Microsoft Tasks.
Google Tasks is available on the Play Store, for Android cell phone owners, and on the App Store, for iPhone owners.
