Gmail wins verified seal to fight fraud – 04/05/2023 – Tech

Google announced this Wednesday (3) that it will start displaying a blue verification seal next to the name of legitimate senders. The measure will help users identify spam and criminals posing as brands, the company said in a post on the Workspace blog.
Ordinary users, however, will not be able to apply for a blue badge, as in the old versions of Twitter. The feature is aimed at businesses that have already set up Bimi (Brand Indicators for Message Identification).
To obtain it, the company’s logo must be a registered trademark, which in Brazil is obtained through the INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property).
Bimi was launched in 2021 by Google so that senders would only use an official logo as a profile picture when proving brand ownership, domain ownership and using strong authentication. Companies with this setting will automatically receive the blue seal.
In the image released by Google, the icon is displayed next to the name of the sending company. When hovering over it, the message appears: “The sender of this email has verified that he owns the domain and logo in the profile picture.”
Gmail is making verification marks available starting this Wednesday (3), and will be visible to all users within three days.
