Art event starts this Thursday (15th) and ends on April 15th, at the Manoel Santiago gallery, at Palacete Provincial.
Manaus (AM) – A new generation of visual artists from Amazonas came together in a collective with the aim of bringing another perspective on the art of Amazonas in the 21st century. The result can be seen in the exhibition “Geração 21”, which runs from this Thursday- fair (15) and continues until April 15, at the Manoel Santiago gallery, at Palacete Provincial.
The collective of artists adopts the same name given to the exhibition: Geração 21. The opening ceremony of the exhibition takes place this Thursday (15th), at 6pm. On other days, the exhibition is open to visitors during the Provincial Palace’s opening hours: Monday to Saturday (except Wednesdays), from 9am to 3pm.
“The Geração 21 collective emerged with the aim of recognizing Amazonian artists who are entering the field of visual arts in the 21st century through their first exhibitions, which justifies this name”, explained Victor Hugo da Silva Reis, director of the Geração 21 collective. and curator of the exhibition of the same name.
“Through the formation of the collective, we decided to introduce it with an artistic exhibition with the name of the collective, but without a specific theme, as its main objective is to present it to the community”, stated Victor Hugo.
The group started with just eight artists, but currently includes 38 participants from Manaus and other municipalities in Amazonas, a number that could soon expand, according to the collective’s director.
“We are also not limited to just the walls of the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam), but we intend to explore other institutions to exhibit such as the State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy, Icbeu (Brazil-United States Cultural Institute), the shopping mall galleries and other spaces”, defended Victor Hugo.
This first exhibition brings together 10 artists from the collective: Airy, Arcanjo, Leen, Emilly Rocha, Geci, Solnaterra, Jussara, Leo Rezz, Lu Saturno and Victor Hugo Reis (curator and artist), all defined by call, exhibiting a total of 32 works , with different techniques and themes.
Building the story
According to the director, the collective intends to build its own history, in the same way that artists from other generations built theirs. When studying the history of art in Amazonas, we learn the importance of artists over the decades, and how their generation was strong and resisted many aspects, which increasingly enriched their trajectory in the field of plastic arts in Amazonas, which is why We also want to build our own.
Victor Hugo also informs that the collective aims to include and encourage more developing artists to enter cultural spaces and establish a dialogue between their art and the population.
“However, our objectives go beyond exhibitions in museums and galleries, as art must be taken outside these spaces too, and must be accessed by everyone, which is why we will also carry out projects with the community, intending to bring the population other experiences in art, based on the context of the century”, stated the director and curator.
The collective also aims to contribute to cultural spaces, says Victor Hugo, adding that the group will present future projects to be carried out in the spaces, establishing partnerships, integrating different groups, enabling inclusion and accessibility and encouraging people to frequent these places more.
