Even having already been nominated by the government to take over the Monetary Policy directorate of the Central Bank of Brazil, the former executive secretary of the Ministry of Finance was elected chairman of the board of the state-owned bank in May this year. He had previously told Reuters that when he was appointed to BC he would leave the BB board. Galípolo’s sabbatine at the Senate Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) is scheduled for this Tuesday (4). On the same day, Ailton de Aquino Santos, nominated for the Board of Inspection of the autarchy, will also be examined on the same day. After approval by the CAE, the names go to the full Senate for consideration, in a secret ballot. Galípolo arrived at the government to be part of the team of the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, and was confirmed in early May as the nominee by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for the BC’s monetary policy chair.
