In an interview this Wednesday morning, the 14th, the mayor of Macapá, Antônio Furlan, informed that the situation in the city, in relation to the overflows caused by the rains, from Saturday until Tuesday, was being monitored, with a team from the municipality on call to take action if necessary.

“We cannot say that the situation is under control, because there are still some areas flooded, but it is monitored, with teams in place and others working in search of normality”, emphasized the mayor, in the interview. Furlan was heard on the program LuizMeloEntrevista (Diário FM 90.9).

The manager noted that the prevention carried out by the city hall, in the canals, and the immediate action, when the rains increased, together with help from the state government, prevented the problem from spreading further. Furlan pointed out that the city is crossed by canals and streams, hence the problem every time it rains, accentuated by the strength of the Amazon River.

The mayor recorded 63 houses affected by the waters, with total material loss for their residents. He asked for support from the federal parliamentary group to carry out deep drainage of the Macapá canals, highlighting that this measure is already included in the federal government’s new PAC, in relation to the Beirol Canal.
