In this series of exclusive g1 special reports, you can check out the craziest things that West Paulista fans have done in the name of good old rock and roll. Marli Matias and her son, Marcelo Matias, during a trip to Liverpool, birthplace of The Beatles idols Cedida / Marli Matias What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done in the name of a passion? For West Paulista rock and roll fans, there are several. After all, irreverence is one of the hallmarks that unites the lives of these people with the love for the electrifying genre that goes beyond generations and gives birth to stories like Marli Matias. 🤘 The 68-year-old retiree experienced love for The Beatles as a child, when she was just 10 years old. The compact vinyl of “Help!”, success in the voice of the British rock band, came to her through her father’s influence, in 1965, the year it was released. Since then, admiration for the group has only grown. In the stores where she worked as a record salesperson, in the capital of São Paulo and, later, in Presidente Prudente (SP), she got to know the best of rock that reached the shelves firsthand and strengthened her relationship with the genre even more. “Rock has always been very present in my life. When my dad came out with the ‘Help!’ compact disc, containing two songs, I heard it and I was crazy about it. I fell in love and never let go”, she said to g1. Retired guarantees that she has already been to all Paul McCartney shows in Brazil Cedida/Marli Matias ‘Free as a bird’ 🐦 “Free as a bird It’s the next best thing to be Free as a bird Home, home and dry Like a homing bird I’ll fly As a bird on wings.” – Free as a Bird, The Beatles. 🌎 And just like a bird, Marli Matias flew more than 10 thousand kilometers just to see Paul McCartney up close, in Vancouver, Canada. It was an hours trip to the city where the idol would perform, the same as she had already seen in Brazil. From São Paulo (SP) to Curitiba (PR), the fan guarantees that she was present at all of the artist’s presentations in Brazil and one in Las Vegas, in the United States. According to her, although she has seen him so many times, with each new show, the emotion is the same. “At the first show, I was very emotional. I couldn’t speak, I couldn’t photograph, I couldn’t do anything, I just cried. It was beautiful. I didn’t even drink water so I didn’t have to leave my seat to go to the bathroom, ”she said. To g1, the fan also pointed out that, on certain trips, her children, who are musicians, accompany her, but when she is alone, she dives headlong into the experiences that only the love of rock can provide. “Sometimes they [familiares] they think I’m a little crazy, but when there’s some news related to Paul, they send it to me right away”, she said in an interview. Ever since he won the ‘Help! An example of this is the relationship built with musicians from Minas Gerais and their families. 🤳 She met the Beatles cover group on the internet and has always accompanied the work of artists since then. One day, she saw that they would do a show in Liverpool, homeland of her idols, in England. All it took was a “come together” for the pensioner to fly to the capital of Minas Gerais to accompany them on the “journey of a lifetime”. During a trip to Liverpool, Marli Matias (blue) visited the Cavern Club, where the Beatles performed at the beginning of their career Cedida/Marli Matias “It was the best trip of my life. I know 60 countries, I’ve been to wonderful places, but this trip to Liverpool was the trip of a lifetime. Since I was 10 years old, when I got that little disc from my father, I was dying to go, because on the back of the disc it said ‘these are the four youngsters from Liverpool, they are being released in the United States’ and so on. Since that time, I dreamed of this Liverpool guy, ”she recalled with emotion. In 2017, the retired woman flew alongside her son, the musicians and their families to the northwest of England and, when she first set foot in the birthplace of the idols, crossing the Atlantic Ocean, emotion took over. “I read a lot, I even knew what Liverpool was like. I got there and I knew every street I was on. I cried like a child, I cried aloud. When we walked into the Cavern Club, where they first played, and I started down the stairs, I was crying. On a bus tour with Magical Mystery Tour, we went into the neighborhood and their house on Penny Lane. I just cried,” she detailed her. Love engraved on the skin 💙 Like the excerpts from the famous and unforgettable songs “Eleanor Rigby”, “Hey Jude”, “Here Comes the Sun”, “Blackbird” and “Yesterday”, the Beatles were immortalized in the heart and even on the skin of Marli Matias. In all, three tattoos record the retiree’s admiration for the legacy of artists who made history on the world stage. In one of her arms, she carries the title of the song “Let It Be”, in the other, that of “Here, There and Everywhere”, already on her back, the silhouette of the quartet that she has accompanied for more than five decades. ‘Let it Be’ is one of three tattoos that the retiree has in honor of idols Cedida/Marli Matias “I told my children that I would only enter their wedding if the chosen song was by the Beatles. In the first one, it was ‘Let it Be’. At the second’s wedding, it was ‘Here, There and Everywhere’, joked Marli. When it comes to passion, not even age can stop the love that connects the fan’s life to that of her idols. Even “lightly”, she will always be present in some way with the eternal young people of Liverpool. 🧍 🧍 ♂️🎸🧍 🧍 ♂️ ′′ I’d do more crazy things for rock, but age is wanting to come, so I’m going to take it easy. As Paul is also about to stop, if there is a concert anywhere in the world, I will do everything to go”, concluded the fan to g1.
