Free lectures promoted by the Amazonas Green Jazz Festival start on Friday

Manaus (AM) – Starting this Friday (21), the Amazonas Green Jazz Festival, considered the biggest event of its kind in Latin America, will promote an academic agenda with 15 free lectures with artists and technicians from the event.

In total, there will be 13 masterclasses and two lectures focused on concerts, shows and cultural production. Subscribers who participate in the meetings will receive certificates of hours, which can be used as a supplementary load in higher education courses.

Two masterclasses take place. From 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm, the educator from the Manhattan School of Music, Berklee College of Music and Hunter College, the Australian Nadje Noordhuis, presents the fundamentals of the Trumpet. Also on that day, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, those interested in Trombone will discuss the main topics with North American singer and composer Natalie Cressman.

From 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, the Scenic Lighting masterclass will be taught by Fernanda Mattos, from Manaus based in Rio de Janeiro, who has already worked with great names in the arts in Brazil, such as Paulo Betti and Deborah Colker. Fernanda is also responsible for lighting the Festival’s shows.

From 11 am to 12:30 pm, the American prodigy Jonathan Kreisberg will teach the Guitar masterclass. The guitarist was admitted to the New World School of Arts at the age of 16 and has already performed in the New World Symphony Orchestra, which is a world reference in the subject.

The public attends three masterclasses. The first, from 10:00 to 12:00, will be played by guitar under the command of Aldenor Honorato, guitarist, author of the album “Aldenor Honorato Solo Volume 1” and member of the Amazonas Band. Even young, the guitarist stands out among the most promising today.

From 3 pm to 4 pm, the masterclass will be with one of the most important violinists of all time, the American Regina Carter. She is the cousin of jazz saxophonist James Carter, who made music history.

And from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, it will be the turn of the masterclass on African Percussion with Dizu Plaatjies, Xhosa musician and known for being the founder and former leader of the South African group Amamvindo. Today, together with the Ibuyambo group, Dizu performs in several European countries and regularly in South Africa.

from 10 am to 10 pm, there is a guitar masterclass with Ismael Nascimento. Born in Amazonas, Ismael is a composer, educator and content producer on social networks. He has a doctorate in jazz guitar from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles (USA), where he has won several awards. And from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm, the producer of the Amazonas Green Jazz Festival, who has over 30 years in the execution of major events in the State, Inês Daou, gives the lecture “Organizational Strategy of the AGJF”, showing the importance of Communication for the success of the plans.

At 10 am, the former member of the big band The United Nations Orchestra and a reference in jazz and Afro-Cuban culture, Ignacio Berroa, leads a masterclass on drums. And the Brazilian saxophonist, composer and arranger, Felipe Salles, will teach, at 3 pm, a masterclass on saxophone. Graduated in Jazz Performance, he has a doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music and, since 2010, he has been a professor at the University of Massachusetts.

In the morning, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, the public follows a masterclass on saxophone with Rodrigo Ursaia. Graduated from the Berklee College of Music and master from the Manhattan School of Music, the musician will address the technical subsidies for interpretation and improvisation on the saxophone.

In the afternoon, at 3 pm, recording engineer Clement Zular presents a masterclass on audio at major concerts and festivals. With extensive experience in technical, sound and stage direction, Clement acts as an acoustic designer and comes back with news to present the most modern on the subject.

Starting at 3 pm, the American journalist Ted Panken presents the lecture “Cultural Journalism: the jazz scene”. Ted already writes for major magazines of the genre, such as Down Beat, Jazziz and Jazz Times. In addition, he is a member of the Critics’ Choice Awards nominating committee.

And to close the academic program, at 10 am, the Brazilian Cristiane Bloes gives a masterclass on piano. Since 1993, she has been teaching at the Tatuí Conservatory, where she coordinates the Piano and Harp department. She has a master’s degree from the São Paulo State University (Unesp), focusing on Theory and Praxis of the Creative Process.

Amazonas Green Jazz Festival

The Amazonas Green Jazz Festival is the biggest festival of its kind in Latin America. This year’s edition, entitled “Ella’s”, pays tribute to the female voices of jazz, with a wide program between the 21st and 30th of this month, at Teatro Amazonas, located in the historic center of Manaus. In addition to the free lectures, the festival will also promote exhibitions at Casa do Jazz, Jazz on the Floating, among other activities.

The event is organized by the Government of Amazonas, through the State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy and the Amazon Agency for Cultural Development. In addition, it has the support of the Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants (Abrasel), Manauara Shopping and Hotel Juma Ópera, with production by Iaí Promoções.
