Drex, as it was named, is the digital representation of the real and promises greater ease, agility and security for transactions. Drex is still being tested — in a phase that involves dozens of financial institutions and technology companies and has lasted a few months. The expectation (which may change) is that these tests will take place until the end of May, with a first evaluation of the pilot in June. If all goes well, the first functionalities of the digital real could be available to the public by the end of 2024. But, even with a few months since the announcement of the BC’s plans with the currency, many people still wonder what Drex is and how it will work.
