Leaders present signed a collective letter addressed to President Lula

Manaus (AM) – Fecomércio in Amazonas promoted, this Monday (30), a meeting with businesspeople, union presidents, trade associations and authorities to discuss the urgency in rebuilding BR-319. During the meeting, the leaders present signed a collective letter addressed to the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, reporting the adversities faced with the most severe drought in history and the worsening of the crisis due to the absence of a road in trafficable conditions.

According to the president of Fecomércio in Amazonas, Aderson Frota, the period of severe drought, which affects the capital and all municipalities in Amazonas with the lowest river levels in the last 120 years, brings to light the urgent need to put on the agenda and mobilize society in favor of the reconstruction of BR-319.

“We are not defending a purely economic thesis. Of course, supplying the city and the interior of the State is of fundamental importance. But, at this time of drought, the population of the interior is deprived of drinking water and food. We are reiterating the need to have the highway working, integrating Amazonas with the rest of the country. We don’t have roads, we don’t have railways and our highway has been in need of completion for 50 years”,

explained the president.

The letter signed by the authorities highlighted the importance of BR-319, the highway that connects Manaus to Porto Velho, as a vital axis for supplying the region, facilitating the transport of goods and people, in addition to the flow of agricultural, industrial and commercial production.

“We have to look not only at the economic part that compromises the Manaus Industrial Pole, our Free Zone, but we have to take into consideration what happens to our people in the interior and even in the capital. At this moment, we have to forget any partisan coloring, get involved and defend the reconstruction of our BR-319”,

highlighted the vice-president of Fieam, Nelson Azevedo.
