According to the folder, the presenter is the 12th patient contemplated by the procedure in the country since the 19th of August.

The Ministry of Health reported, on Sunday (27), that presenter Fausto Silva, popularly known as Faustão, had priority in the waiting list for a heart transplant due to his serious health condition. According to the folder, the presenter is the 12th patient contemplated by the procedure in the country since the 19th of August.

“The list for transplants is unique and applies to both SUS and private network patients. The entire structure is managed by the Ministry of Health, which ensures that high-complexity surgeries are performed for patients in the public and private network, on an equal basis”, said the Ministry of Health.

The statement was made shortly after Faustão received the heart and underwent successful surgery at the Albert Einstein hospital, in São Paulo, where he has been hospitalized since August 5th. The presenter was diagnosed with heart failure and, after the organ’s pumping strength worsened, was placed on the transplant waiting list.

In the note, the Ministry of Health reported that it considers technical criteria to evaluate the waiting list. These include blood typing, weight and height compatibility, genetic compatibility, and severity.

When the technical criteria are similar, the chronological order of registration works as a tiebreaker. Patients in critical condition, however, are treated with priority.
