Farmácia Popular provides sanitary pads in establishments in Amazonas

The benefiting population is between 10 and 49 years old and can collect pads in more than 31 thousand accredited pharmacies throughout Brazil

The Farmácia Popular program makes sanitary pads available to socially vulnerable populations in more than 31,000 accredited units across the country. In Amazonas, 69 pharmacies are accredited for distribution in 16 municipalities. The initiative is a result of the actions of the Program for the Protection and Promotion of Menstrual Health and Dignity already carried out by the Federal Government in 2023. Gender equity and access to sanitary pads, combating inequalities caused by menstrual poverty, has been a priority topic addressed in an interministerial manner since the beginning of the current administration.

Access through Farmácia Popular covers the majority of the benefited population and this is an important step forward in guaranteeing access to menstrual dignity. The program is implemented inter-ministerially. The initiative is joint between the Health departments; Human Rights and Citizenship; Justice and Public Security; Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger; Women and Education.

The offer is aimed at groups living below the poverty line and enrolled in public schools, homeless or in extreme vulnerability. The population held in units of the prison system will also be covered. The program’s target audience covers 24 million people between 10 and 49 years old in all regions of the country. The estimate is to reach around 517 thousand people in Amazonas.

To guarantee the benefit, people who meet the already established criteria will need to present a personal identification document and authorization at the accredited pharmacy. This authorization will be issued by the ‘Meu SUS Digital’ application – the new version of Conecte SUS now available for download.

The Ministry of Health portal provides the option to download the ‘Meu SUS Digital’ application. The guidelines are also available on Dial Saúde 136.

How to access the benefit

Brazilians or foreigners who live in Brazil, are between 10 and 49 years old, registered in the Single Registry (CadÚnico) and have a monthly family income of up to R$218 per month can receive the hygiene item at accredited units of Farmácia Popular. person. Students from public educational institutions must also be on CadÚnico, but the monthly family income per person is up to half the minimum wage (R$706). For homeless people, there is no income limit.

To collect the pad, simply go to an accredited Farmácia Popular unit, present an official identification document with CPF number and the ‘Menstrual Dignity Program Authorization’, in digital or printed format, which must be generated via the app or website of ‘Meu SUS Digital’ (new version of the Conecte SUS application), valid for 180 days. Purchases for minors under 16 must be made by a legal guardian.

If you have difficulty accessing ‘My Digital SUS’ or issuing authorization, simply go to a Basic Health Unit (UBS), where health agents and professionals can assist in issuing the authorization. Homeless people can also go to the Social Assistance Reference Centers – Cras and Creas, POP Centers, reception centers and Street Clinic teams.

For people detained in penal system units, delivery will be coordinated and executed by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, with distribution carried out directly in prison institutions.
