The external prices of commodities remain favorable for the Brazilian trade balance. The country reduces the traded volume of some products this year, but it is compensated, in part, by high external prices.

Soybean sales, the annual leader in the Brazilian agribusiness balance, totaled 5.2 million tons last month, 13% less than in the same period of 2022.

Revenues, however, reached US$ 2.9 billion, with a drop of only 3%. This was due to an 11% increase in average prices in February, compared to the second month of 2022.

Corn, another important component of the trade balance, also benefited from foreign market prices. Brazil exported the cereal at US$ 305 per ton, 14% more than last year.
After the record foreign sales of 2022, exports of the cereal already total 8.45 million tons this year, with an increase of 141% over January and February 2022.

Smaller domestic supply for the national market and heated exports hold the level of cereal prices negotiated in the region of Campinas at R$ 86 per bag.

Wheat, which had a strong acceleration in prices after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, a year ago, still maintains inviting values for export.

Last month, Brazil sold the cereal at US$ 326 per ton, 9% more than in February 2022. The volume placed on the foreign market, however, was lower than in 2022.

Among meats, beef has lost its price on the foreign market, even before the suspension of Brazilian exports to China due to the mad cow case that is being analyzed in Canada.

The ton of protein dropped to US$ 4,855, down 13% in one year. Poultry and pork meat registered increases of 9.3% and 14.5%, respectively, in the same period.

After the price explosion in the first half of last year, inputs are more affordable, but still heated. Fertilizer imports fell to 2.1 million tons last month, and average prices were 20% lower, according to data from Secex (Secretary of Foreign Trade), released this Wednesday (1st).

fat ox 2 Data are from Cepea (Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics), and the drop occurred due to the suspension of exports to China.

fat ox 3 This suspension followed a protocol between the two countries that interrupts sales in case of sanitary occurrences, such as the case of the mad cow in Pará, which is being analyzed by a laboratory in Canada.
