Experimental intersection of sounds, languages ​​and technologies at Farol.live

Farol.live’s 2023 program starts this Tuesday at Cine Farol Santander (Rua Sete de Setembro, 1028), with the presentation of Espírito, a collaboration between M Takara, Carla Boregas and Dimitre Lima. The project produced by the Kino Beat and Cuco Produções festival is a space to encourage creation and experimentation in different languages ​​and technologies, their intersections and developments. The program features varied artistic immersions involving names from the Brazilian cultural scene, betting on the intersection of music, visual arts, performing arts, audiovisual and everything else that fits in the imagination of each artist involved.

The public will be able to check out a second performance on the 31st, entitled Degelo, both integrating the programming of the 8th Kino Beat Festival. Tickets cost R$15.00, with half price benefits, and are already on sale at Sympla.

Espírito is a collaboration between the musician duo M Takara and Carla Boregas and the artist and programmer Dimitre Lima. The idea, according to Boregas, is to create a piece inspired by the paths of channeled groundwater in the region of Anhangabaú, in the city of São Paulo, its moments of overflow and flooding, and the chaotic return of these waters to nature, in a reflection on the conflict between the urban and the environment.

Maurício Takara plays drums and percussion with the bands Hurtmold, Rakta and São Paulo Underground, and is an active name in São Paulo’s improvisation and experimental music scene. In his solo work, he uses drums and percussion in connection with synthesizers and electronic effects, exploring the more abstract and melodic side of rhythms and percussive sounds. In turn, Carla Boregas is an artist who works with sound exploring analogue and digital synthesizers, electric bass, field recording and acoustic sounds with an emphasis on texture, repetition and sensoriality. She is also half of Fronte Violeta, a transdisciplinary duo that investigates sound in a multisensory way. Dimitre Lima is an artist and programmer, and has carried out projects such as the Lunar Calendar Poster (2011-2022), the work Ventoagua at the Sesi-SP Digital Gallery (2017) and the closing of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

On January 31st, it’s the turn of Degelo, by Henrique Roscoe, an audiovisual performance on global warming, performed using an instrument created by the artist: a styrofoam block with two built-in microphones, which is played by pulling out parts until only small pieces remain. The performance addresses the predatory way that human beings have treated the planet and one of its consequent results, the melting of the polar ice caps, in a format that intersperses moments of tension with others in which an apparent calm appears before new fractures happen again. .

Henrique Roscoe is a digital artist, musician and curator. He has been working in the audiovisual field since 2004. In early 2008 he started a conceptual and generative audiovisual project called Hol, with which he has performed at some of the main live image festivals in Brazil and abroad. He participated in video festivals in countries such as Germany, France, Spain, Holland and the USA with documentation of his compositions.

Curated by Gabriel Cevallos, founder and curator of the Kino Beat Festival, the presentations will be developed in an unprecedented way or in adaptations designed specifically for the space, exploring the resources and limitations of the room as a creative device.
