On November 5th, Brazil remembers the death of the considered Queen of Suffering, the country singer Marília Mendonça. 730 days have passed since the plane crash that killed the artist, however, she continues to break records and has never left the top of the most listened to songs in the country.

Daily present in Brazilians’ headphones, Marília was the second most listened to artist in the country in 2021. The following year, she spent 28 weeks in 1st place on Spotify nationwide, 17 weeks in a row. Currently, the singer remains on the “Top 50 Brasil” playlist, which shows the 50 most played songs in the country.

In January this year, the song Leão became the first Portuguese-language song in history to reach 1.9 million reproductions in just one day. The song was originally released in December 2020, in partnership with rapper Xamã. But during the pandemic, Marília gave a new look to the song, which ended up being released posthumously, in the Decretos Reales project.

In May 2023, Marília again showed the strength and relevance of her music, becoming the first Brazilian to reach 10 billion reproductions on Spotify, according to Chart Data. Currently, the singer has more than 12.5 million monthly listeners on streaming.

The singer’s story will also be immortalized in a film. The sequel ‘Marília Mendonça O Filme’ will be made by Prime Vídeo. The information was confirmed by the artist’s mother, Dona Ruth, in September this year.

The Civil Police of Minas Gerais concluded that negligence and recklessness were the causes of the death of five people, including singer Marília Mendonça, in a plane crash on November 5, 2021. The practice of culpable homicide by the pilot and of the aircraft’s co-pilot, but the investigation was closed due to the death of both in the accident.

The Beech Aircraft model aircraft crashed moments before landing in a waterfall in the district of Piedade de Caratinga, in the municipality of Caratinga in Minas Gerais.
