In recent weeks the European Commission and the European Council have taken the same attitude. TikTok’s US headquarters Mike Blake/REUTERS The European Parliament has decided to ban Chinese short video-sharing app TikTok from corporate cell phones for security reasons, a European Union official said on Tuesday. Parliament will be the last EU institution to take that decision. In recent weeks, both the European Commission and the European Council have asked their employees to remove the app from corporate cell phones. The ban will also apply to private devices with Parliament email and other network access installed on them, the official said. The United States considers the app a threat to national security and in 2022 banned its use on federal government devices. Canada has also banned its use on the mobile devices it provides to government officials because “TikTok’s data collection methods give meaningful access to phone content.”
