For the third consecutive month, the trade entrepreneur’s confidence index fell in February, according to the survey that FecomercioSP will release this Wednesday (8).
The indicator, which measures the sector’s perception of companies and the country’s economy, dropped from 114 points in January to 112 in the last month.
In the annual comparison, the confidence of the sector regressed almost 4% in February, according to the entity.
“These data are a reflection of the drop in demand caused by the high indebtedness of consumers, added to inflation and high interest rates – a scenario that reduces the purchasing power of families and, consequently, limits the expansion of business in the short term”, says FecomercioSP in note.
The survey also recorded a 9% decline in the expectation of hiring employees in the last month compared to the same period in 2022.
On the same basis of comparison, the indicator that monitors the situation of trade stocks also fell by 7%, according to the entity.
