Entrepreneur creates “green cashback” and has already planted around 23,000 tree seedlings in Rondônia

How about reforesting the Amazon through cashback? This is the proposal of the startup Treeback, from Roraima, with the “green cashback”. It works like this: for every BRL 50 spent on participating marketplaces, the consumer, free of charge, reverts the value to planting a tree seedling in one of the three areas covered by the project. Founded by CEO Amaury Cerqueira (photo) 3 years ago, the purpose of the startup is to fulfill a personal ambition of the creator to support forest preservation initiatives.

“I wanted to contribute to the environment in a simple way. The idea of ​​Treeback came up at least 3 years ago when the concept of cashback was not yet well known in Brazil, and I thought: ‘why not create a cashback of trees?’, that is, Treeback. When building the startup’s business model, I saw the possibility of allowing people and companies aligned with ESG policies to get involved with the environmental cause very easily and, most of the time, without spending anything on it. I believe that our great differential is that we do reforestation in the Amazon and, above all, we are from the Amazon, where we are generating income here within our own biome”,

explains Cerqueira, who has a degree in Accounting and Systems Development Analysis.

In Treeback’s modus operandi, in addition to B2C, in which referral marketing commissions are reversed in planted tree seedlings, the startup operates in B2B, where it calculates and neutralizes companies’ carbon emissions and develops on-demand planting projects .

To ensure the transparency of the tree planting process in the places indicated by the platform, a planting event is held every two months in public places with all the trees generated on the platform during the period.

“The receptivity is the best possible, as we are taking beyond the possibility of restitution of the native forest as it was before the action of man, the generation of income for these communities through the hiring of local labor”,

it says.

As Amaury explains, the regions mapped and selected are, preferably, indigenous areas impacted by deforestation. According to the CEO, after planting the seedlings, certification mechanisms allow for continued monitoring.

“Through our ‘Find Your Tree’ tool, we share planting data such as geolocation, species, rescued carbon, planting date and photos, and if authorized by the user, we attribute that tree with the name and profile picture of the person who made it possible. planting”,

explains.

In just over a year of operation, around 23,000 trees of native species were planted in Roraima, which, according to Amaury, moved more than R$ 1 million in the period and the fulfillment of 12 of the 17 principles of the Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations (UN).

According to Amaury, among the next steps planned for the continuity of the startup, participant of Inova Amazônia, is the expansion of reforestation projects to other states that are part of the biome. “We project a 60% growth in our business in 2023 with the adoption of drone planting. We recently launched our travel portal through the link (and we intend to launch Treeback Global to reach the world market”, he concludes.
