Energy transition will be one of Brazil’s priorities ahead of the G20

Energy transition and sustainable development form one of the three priority lines of Brazil’s future management in the G20 presidency. The leadership of the group formed by the 20 largest global economies is rotating and Brazil will occupy it from December 1, 2023 to November 30, 2024.
The other two lines, as recently declared by Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, will be to promote social inclusion and combat hunger around the world and advance the reform of global governance institutions.
The G20 discusses economic, social, development and international cooperation issues. The government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) chose the energy transition as one of the showcases of its international policy.
Experts consulted by People’s Gazette, however, warn that the country needs a strategic plan with clear definitions on how this process will be carried out. Otherwise, the country could be at the mercy of external interests and subject to rigid rules created by third parties, which could be used by competitors as an instrument of market control.
