‘Encontro das Águas 2023’ series takes place in July in Manaus

Manaus (AM) – Always with the proposal of bridging the gap between erudite culture and pop culture, the series “Encontro das Águas” wins its ninth season in 2023, under a theme that has been a constant since its creation: diversity. The shows take place between the 4th and 16th of July, in various cultural spaces in the city, ranging from the Teatro Amazonas to Rua Barroso, in the center of the city.

The shows for the 2023 season have casts made up of musicians and dancers from the artistic bodies of Teatro Amazonas, under the coordination of maestro Marcelo de Jesus, allied with artists from the most diverse cultural movements in the city, in a dialogue that favors artistic diversity.

In this way, the Amazonas Philharmonic Orchestra and the Corpo de Dança do Amazonas, for example, have the opportunity to dialogue with the geek and gamer movements. Similarly, lyrically trained singers share the stage with pop singers.

This Wednesday morning (07/06), a meeting between directors, guests and the press marked the launch of the 2023 season at Teatro Amazonas.

“It will be a wide program involving the artistic bodies of the Secretariat of Culture and an extraordinary cast chosen from auditions. That is, our stable bodies dialogue with artists who work in the state of Amazonas. In this way, we value the house’s silverware and, at the same time, offer the public great shows”, says the Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy, Marcos Apolo Muniz.

The highlights of this season are the chosen theme: “Diversities”, taking a step forward in its concept that has always been to provide an unlikely encounter between artistic languages. With this theme, the shows expand to become a meeting tool between people and ideas that reflect our contemporaneity.

For conductor Marcelo de Jesus, who has been leading the “Encontro das Águas” series for almost a decade, dialogue with different audiences is one of the fundamentals. “This series is not for an audience. It is for multiple audiences. We are dialoguing with geek people, with children, with people who like classical ballet, with people who like sagas, Star Wars, anime, games. So I’m sure one of the shows was made for you”, he says.

This season’s presentations embrace a greater number of spectators and repertoires, including and inviting the entire productive and creative chain of professional women, LGBTQI+, black community, young and old, the proposal is to compose with diversity an audience that can develop new ideas and partnerships.

The series “Encontro das Águas” will have shows like “Divaland”, on July 4th and 5th, at 8 pm, with scenic direction by Matheus Sabbá, musical arrangements by Gabriel Lima and the participation of Balé Folclórica do Amazonas, Madrigal do Amazonas and Orquestra of the Chamber of Amazonas. The musical direction is by Marcelo de Jesus as well as the conducting, which is a partnership with the conductor Bruno Nascimento.

On the following day, July 6th, at 8 pm, the nerd and geek universe will be able to check out his connection with classical music. This is because conductor and musical director Átila de Paula presents the show “Geek Jukebox” at Teatro Amazonas, in which anime music will be performed by highly specialized musicians from Amazonas.

Between the 7th and 8th of July, also starting at 8 pm, Teatro Amazonas will be taken over by “Musikstation: Restart”, with Amazonas Filarmônica, Grupo Vocal dos Corpos Artísticos, musical direction signed by Marcelo de Jesus, the regency in partnership with maestro Otávio Simões.

In the morning of the 8th and 9th of July, in the Jardim do Palácio Rio Negro, the “Family Concert” takes place, in which the focus is on future generations who will consume the diversity of music produced in Amazonas. This is because a musical garden for babies aged 0 to 3 months will be offered at the Palácio Rio Negro Cultural Center in partnership with the Suzuki Amazonas Center.

Also on July 9th, the programming of the series ‘Encontro das Águas’ is integrated with the event “Te Encontro na Barroso”, still following the geek theme, with great pop culture classics with “Geek Jukebox – Sagas”. Átila de Paula conducts and conducts music in a partnership between Geek Jukebox and Casarão de Ideias, where the event takes place from 6 pm.

Still at Casarão de Ideias, on July 13, cinema sessions at 7 pm and 8 pm for the film ‘Koyaanisqatsi’, a film by Godfrey Reggio with music by Philip Glass.

On the 14th, 15th and 16th of July, the classical ballet “Dom Quixote” will be an attraction at Teatro Amazonas, with musical direction by Marcelo de Jesus, who is also responsible for conducting the show with maestro Luiz Fernando Malheiro. The ballet Álvaro Gonçalves and Belarte Amazonas also participate in the work, as well as the Amazonas Philharmonic.

Concluding the program, the show “Disquinhos”, by the Metamorfose de Teatro group, pays homage to maestro Radamés Gnattali, rescuing the scores of compact vinyl discs of children’s stories, which were part of the childhood of those over 40 years old. The cast has six actors and with musical direction by Marcelo de Jesus and scenic direction by Socorro Andrade.
